I`m PhD-researcher from Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.


My Research interests are :

-                  Asian Cinema (in particular, the cinematographies of  East Asia, South-East Asia and India); Orientalism and cross-cultural communication within the film frame; The film as an expression of national identity and the problem of its reading within the other culture; The question of traditionalism and neo-traditionalism; mechanisms for realization of neo-traditionalism within the film texture.

-                  The topic of construction of universal messages that can reach each and every viewer – as a function of the globalization of cinema; Aesthetics and interpretation of traditional aesthetic values within the film frame; The issue of the traditional concept of the artistic image through the prism of the Seventh Art; Relations of continuity between the traditional East Asian literatures, folklore, classic theatre of the region, traditions of depiction and contemporary cinema;

Currently, I have been working on the following research project:

“Contemporary Thai Cinema” – it is part оf a four-year individual systematic project “Contemporary Thai Cinema” with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Art Studies, “Screen Arts” Sector);

Education:

-        April, 2008: completed of second MA degree “East Asian Cultures” at the Sofia University ”St. Kliment Ohridski”, Center for Eastern Languages and Cultures. Diploma thesis was “Interpretations of the Ancient Theatrical Tractate “Natyasastra” and the Traditional Indian Poetics in the Indian Movie “Devdas”.

-        January 2006:  obtaining of a doctor’s educational and scientific degree (PhD) in Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Art Studies, “Screen Arts” Sector after defending a doctor’s dissertation on the topic of “The Cinema of the Far East: Genre and Narrative Structures and Cultural Aesthetical Interactions (end of 20th – beginning of 21st c.)”

-        July 2001: completed first MA degree with a professional qualification of “Filmologist” in the specialty of “Cinema Studies” at NAFTA “Krastyo Sarafov”. Diploma thesis: “The Filming of Akira Kurosava. Principles of Interpretation”
